Your journey begins at Londorossi Gate, where you hike through lush rainforests alive with birds and colobus monkeys. The trail then opens into the Shira Plateau, a vast moorland with sweeping views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s peaks. This gradual start provides excellent acclimatization, increasing your chances of a successful summit.
As the days progress, you’ll trek past dramatic landmarks, including the Lava Tower and the Barranco Wall. Each section challenges you while rewarding you with unforgettable panoramas. The acclimatization strategy of “climb high, sleep low” helps your body adapt to altitude safely and comfortably.
On Day 7, you’ll make the exciting push to Uhuru Peak, standing 5,895 meters above sea level. Watching the sunrise over the vast African plains from the summit is an experience you will never forget. The descent follows the Mweka Route, leading you back through alpine desert and rainforest to the Mweka Gate.

Your adventure begins with a scenic 3-hour drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, where you'll complete registration. From the gate, embark on a 6-kilometer (4-mile) trek through a lush forest trail that leads to the Lemosho Glades. The hike will take approximately 2 to 3 hours, offering opportunities to spot wildlife like monkeys and birds. You’ll arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, known for its towering trees, where you’ll enjoy a hearty dinner and an overnight stay.

After a hearty breakfast, you begin your ascent into the moorland zone. The 16-kilometer (10-mile) trail leads you through a scenic path that crosses several streams and gradually gains elevation. As you climb, the vegetation changes, and you’re treated to sweeping views of Mount Kilimanjaro from Shira Ridge. You eventually arrive at Shira 2 Camp, sitting at 3,850 meters, where a warm dinner and a peaceful night’s rest await.

Start the day with a trek toward the Lava Tower, also known as the "Shark's Tooth," at an elevation of 4,650 meters (15,250 feet). This 8-kilometer (5-mile) hike will take approximately 5 to 6 hours, offering magnificent views of the surrounding terrain. After reaching the Lava Tower, descend into the Barranco Valley and camp at Barranco Camp, located below the Great Barranco Wall. This trek is designed to help with acclimatization by combining both ascent and descent.

After breakfast, tackle the iconic Barranco Wall, a steep but rewarding climb that offers incredible views of the surrounding landscape. Once at the top, descend into the Karanga Valley and proceed to Karanga Camp, located at 4,000 meters (13,100 feet). Today’s trek takes you on a 4-kilometer (2-mile) hike to Barafu Camp, which takes about 3 to 4 hours. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of the summit from multiple angles as you complete the South Circuit. At Barafu Camp, you’ll have the opportunity to rest and prepare for the final push toward the summit. Dinner and a briefing on the summit ascent will be provided.

The final ascent begins in the early hours of the morning, around 1:30 AM. After a challenging trek through scree and snow, you’ll pass through Stella Point on the crater rim and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). Celebrate your accomplishment as you watch the African sunrise from the summit. Afterward, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue your descent to Mweka Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
