Route (Sirimon –Chogoria )
Mount Kenya, offers a spectacular hiking experience over 5 days, combining the Sirimon and Chogoria routes. This trek allows adventurers to enjoy lush forests, moorlands, and dramatic peaks.
The route begins with a gradual ascent on the Sirimon side, providing panoramic views and diverse wildlife, and descends through the scenic Chogoria route. The highlight is reaching Point Lenana at sunrise, offering an unforgettable view from one of Africa’s highest peaks.
Your journey kicks off in Nanyuki town. After a drive to Sirimon Gate (2,650m), you’ll start your hike through lush forest that gradually opens into heathland. It’s an easy-to-moderate 3-4 hour walk covering 9km, ending at Judmaier Camp (3,300m) for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, it’s a full day of trekking through stunning scenery. The trail crosses rivers and moorlands, winding through Mackinder's Valley with views of the majestic peaks ahead. Expect a 6-7 hour hike covering 17km, gaining 900m in elevation. Overnight at Shipton Camp (4,200m).
A relaxed day to help your body adjust to the altitude. You’ll take a scenic walk to Kami Hut and visit the Hauseberg Lakes (Hauseberg Tarn and Nanyuki Tarn), then return to Shipton Camp. It’s the perfect day to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit push.
Wake up early for a 3am start. The goal is to reach Point Lenana (4,985m) by sunrise—an unforgettable moment as the golden light bathes the peaks. After a quick celebration, descend to Mintos Hut for breakfast, then hike further down to Mount Meru Bandas (2,950m). It’s a long but rewarding day—11-12 hours of hiking across 32km.
Enjoy your last stretch—a 2-hour walk through the forest to meet your vehicle at the roadhead. From there, you’ll be transferred to Chogoria town, wrapping up your epic Mt. Kenya adventure.
The best trekking seasons are January–March and June–October, when the trails are drier, and the skies are clearer.
