Overview

The Mount Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route offers trekkers one of the most scenic and serene climbs to Uhuru Peak. This 7-day itinerary allows gradual acclimatization, giving you the best chance for summit success.

You begin at Londorossi Gate, trekking through pristine rainforest. This quiet, less-used approach offers peace and wildlife sightings in the early stages. By days two and three, you reach the stunning Shira Plateau, with vast views, high-altitude moorlands, and unique flora such as giant groundsels and ericas.

Progressing higher, you follow the Southern Circuit Trail. The elevation gain remains gradual, a smart acclimatization strategy that supports success at high altitudes.

On summit day, your early morning push starts at Barafu Camp. You tackle volcanic scree to reach Stella Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. Watching the sunrise from the summit is an unforgettable highlight of this trek.

The descent follows the Mweka Route, taking you down across moorlands and back into lush rainforest—closing your journey with verdant, vibrant trails.

This route offers solitude, dramatic landscapes, and excellent acclimatization. The added summit success rates on longer itineraries make it an ideal choice for climbers seeking a rewarding adventure.

For travelers looking to extend their trip, this mountain adventure pairs perfectly with a Mount Kenya hiking tour or one of our wildlife safaris. For official trail access, conservation rules, and park information, visit the Tanzania National Parks Authority.
